  Struggling to Live a Lie

  it’s been very difficult, much more than i first anticipated to live a lie, (be pimo and a regular active member) i still live with my parents but i plan on moving out at the end of the year, so i really need to keep it together.

  but i think people are starting to get suspicious that something is up.

  i’ve stopped commenting, going on service all the time, talking at the door, and occasionally voicing something, such as a question that no one has a good answer for, that makes people think, but ahah, thinking is dangerous and wrong so that is suspicious of course.

  Hmmmmm. I respectfully disagree with the suggestions to ask "awkward" questions. All that will do is get people to question you! Then prepare yourself for some real trouble from the local wolves.

  If you need to fade quietly and painlessly - keep your mouth shut and continue to do less & less.

  If you don't care, carry on asking those questions and stirring up minds. I did that in my last congregation (before I faded!) and received some very unpleasant treatment by the elders. JW's do not like having the "slave's" teachings being questioned - by someone who is clearly an independent thinker!

  Dutch government look for possibility to revoke JW charity status (=tax breaks) after JW refuse independent investigation re. abuse

  well, the title says it all.

  the dutch government will look into the possibility to revoke the charity status of jw after they refused to cooperate in the child abuse scandal.. the government urged the jw to start an independent investigation into the jw child abuse issues, and after some stalling the jw flatout refused.

  unfortunately the government can't really force them.. the chance that the charity status is actually revoked is very small as there appears to be no legal basis to do so, but right now the government and house of representatives are very annoyed with jw.. and in the meantime the da will continue their investigation based on the victims officially reporting abuse to the police..

  As JW's, we were always told (and bragged to non-JW's) that we will always "obey the superior authorities," unless it conflicted with God's laws - i.e. "pay Caesar's things to Caeser...."

  The business corporations of the CCoJW's/WTBTS who masquerade as Bible-based organizations, unashamedly reveal their true colours whenever money is involved or at risk.

  May their blatant contempt for governments and the judiciary continue, because the authorities are waking up to their arrogance - even if most JW's aren't!

  Receiving so much hate recently....

  well, as you all know, my wife (unstuck) and i are not df or da.. we just stopped attending several years back after my "apostate" online activity was found by a nosey employee of ours while she was working in our office (long story if anyone wants to know - it would have to be another thread).

  we never met with any elders - no congregation judicial activity occurred (as we would never consent to do so anyway).

  so our policy has been to be the same kind, loving, normal people we have always been.

  I totally feel for you Stuck, and every other faded/ex JW who feels pain when they are shunned by former friends and family members.

  I genuinely believe that very many JW's are mentally ill-at-ease, not only with the cult lifestyle in general, but especially so with the oppressive changes enforced in recent years. As such, when a "fellow worker at the grindstone" unshackles the harness and abandons the pointless drudgery & strife and walks away, those still shackled experience seriously conflicting emotions - the inculcated hatred, but also envy of the one escaping.

  The vast majority of blinded, non-thinking JW's deserve a chance to see. Those in the cult who are fully aware, deserve the plagues which are coming their way.

  I just looked at that publication, and on page 5, Title Page/Publishers’ Page, it says this -

  "NOTE: Unless otherwise indicated, all Bible quotations and references are according to the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures, the revised edition of 1971 C.E."

  So in reality, the JW's present Bible should be called The Revised, Revised, New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures.

  Colwell’s Rule must die!

  colwell, a trinitarian methodist, was apparently affected by various translators of his time and before, that were translating john 1:1 differently from the norm: "the word was god.

  " you had moffatt’s version saying "the word was divine" (1922); a french bible, "a divine being" (1928); belsham, "a god" (1808); benjamin wilson: "a god" (1864); robert young: "a god" in his commentary of 1985. colwell likely knew that various french and german bibles were being published challenging the traditional rendering "god" of john 1:1 as well.. so he set out to prove them wrong.

  he began by formulating a "rule" regarding predicate nouns and the greek article, whether they occurred after or before the verb.

  I agree with Cofty's sentiments. Good to see thoughtful and intellectual posts on such topics.

  As for the Trinity doctrine itself, I wholeheartedly concur with these Catholic Church's sentiments on it -

  Scary Effectiveness of Assembly Videos

  well, i got to see the final day of this years regional convention.and i saw something that disturbs me.. the final, "summing up review" video.

  it disturbs me because it was so well done.

  (i wish i could remember the title of the song), to the strains of a solo vocalist singing in a fine "irish tenor", we see the actors from the previous videos of the last few days all assembling together in a clearing.

  Isn't it wonderful to see the that it's the WTBTS/CCoJW's who's running scared!!!

  The needle has returned to the start of their old worn out record - "The end is imminent, be prepared to be the only ones saved!"

  The cult's hierarchy knows that the internet and the world's media networks now have the org in their cross-hairs - so it's time to close the sheep's eyes & ears to such information and replace it with the digitally-enhanced message of terror involving everlasting salvation/destruction. Russell & Rutherford had it easy; their modern-day counterparts are suffering. :)
